The City of Marshalltown’s Human Rights Commission may be no more in a couple of weeks. Discussion at last night’s City Council meeting noted that it has been quite difficult to keep five members on the board, per Chapter 94 of the City Code. City Administrator Jessica Kinser noted the commission really hasn’t been active in five years, due in part to other options being available.

Kinser also noted that cities with more than 29,000 are required to have such a commission, but Marshalltown falls short of that. Mayor Joel Greer says he and others can’t wait until that 29,000 mark and above is achieved to be required to have a Human Rights Commission.
