Governor Kim Reynolds was in Marshalltown yesterday (Wendesday) afternoon to take a look at damage around town, as well as the damage at the Iowa Veteran’s Home.

The Governor said the damage from Monday’s derecho might be worse in Marshall County than in the 2018 July tornado. She was asked if there was anything the state could specifically do for the community. She said that was yet to be determined, but realized the damage was more than just to trees and buildings.

Along with the Governor Iowa’s Homeland Security Director and Emergency Management Director Joyce Flinn says she thinks there’s a good chance the damage will qualify for FEMA funds, but no guarantee.

Governor Reynolds added that she received a phone call from President Trump yesterday, so the administration is aware of the impact on the storm, not only in Iowa but through Illinois and Indiana as well.
