We knew there would be at least one face on the Marshalltown City Council with one of the At-Large seats up for grabs. That face will be Gary Thompson, who bested Dex Walker by 112 votes for the seat. Bruce McConnel was a distant third.

Gabe Isom retained the Ward 2 seat, 61 to 38 percent over challenger Tyler Johnson. Al Hoop ran opposed in Ward 4 and received 78 percent of the votes, with the rest going to write-in candidates.

In some other contested City races, Rachel Junck won the Ames Ward 4 position. In Albion, Eric Schmidt defeated Garrett Kaufman for Mayor;

Tim Glenn defeated Michael Sharp for Mayor of Dysart,

Keith Sash defeated Christine Hackett in the Gladbrook mayoral race. Larry Thomas, Anne Michael and Aaron Haughey earned berths on the Tama City Council; Matthew Deam and Darcy McCubbin were the top vote-getters for the Garwin City Council, while the top two among seven Council candidates in Montour were Jeff Hermanstrofer and Charles Bidwell. Arlo Starbuck was elected Mayor of Colo. Jason Sampson got the most votes for the Nevada Council at large post, David Dunn took the Eldora Mayor’s race, with Blake Jones and Cindy Johns taking the two council seats.
