The University of Iowa is refusing to reinstate fired women's field hockey coach Tracey Griesbaum or to re-investigate what her supporters call a pattern of unfair treatment of female coaches.

Griesbaum's attorney, Tom Newkirk, asked President Sally Mason to re-examine the investigation that led to Griesbuam's termination after 14 years leading one of Iowa's most successful women's programs.

He said the university needed to ensure that "no form of bias nor any double standard played a role," saying her firing was the result of allegations of mistreatment from dissatisfied players that would have been dismissed if she was a male coach.

In a letter responding to Newkirk last week for Mason, assistant attorney general George Carroll said the university wouldn't reinstate Griesbaum or investigate whether female coaches have faced discrimination.

A student who ran onto the field during an Ohio State football game and was body-slammed by a coach is losing his scholarship amid his court case.

Defense attorney Mark Collins says officials on Tuesday started removing 21-year-old Anthony Wunder from the Evans Scholars program, which covers tuition and housing for former golf caddies.

The fourth-year engineering student is charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing. His attorney entered a not-guilty plea in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Wunder was stopped and slammed down by an assistant strength and conditioning coach Saturday during Ohio State's home victory over Cincinnati. The coach, Anthony Schlegel, is a former Buckeyes linebacker.

The hit has been a sensation on social media.

Coach Urban Meyer said he had a somewhat serious conversation with Schlegel about the hit.

An attorney for Bryan Stow, the gravely injured Giants fan who won a multimillion-dollar damage suit against the Dodgers, has sued the team again, claiming it is trying to recoup $3.4 million in insurance payments from Stow for his medical care after a beating.

Attorney Tom Girardi said in the lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles that the Dodgers and its insurer want the money returned from the $18 million awarded to Stow this summer by a jury.

Stow suffered a traumatic brain injury after being beaten by two Dodger fans in a parking lot of Dodger Stadium on March 31, 2011. Doctors have testified he will require treatment for the rest of his life.

Jerome Jackson, a lawyer for the Dodgers, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

A national brain injury group says the proposed payout scheme for NFL concussion-related injuries is "deeply flawed."

The Brain Injury Association of America says it believes the proposed awards favor retired players with memory and neuromuscular problems. The group says it excludes former players battling mood swings, aggression and many other problems.

The group's Tuesday court filing seeks the right to weigh in when a federal judge in Philadelphia reviews the settlement plan in November.

The NFL has agreed to provide at least $675 million over 65 years to ex-players diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other serious neurocognitive problems. The total settlement, including research and medical testing, is $765 million.

Lead players' lawyer Christopher Seeger calls the agreement "an extraordinary settlement for retired NFL players and their families."

Roma's Francesco Totti became the oldest player to score a Champions League goal when the 38-year-old Italian tied Tuesday night's game against Manchester City.

Totti broke the record held by former Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs, who was 37 years, 9 months when he scored against Benfica in September 2011. Totti turned 38 on Saturday.

Totti ran onto a pass from Radja Nainggolan and clipped a superb finish over goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 23rd minute for his first goal in in England. The goal made it 1-1.

The FCC wants an end to sports blackouts.

The Federal Communications Commission has voted to spike a decades-old rule preventing cable and satellite operators from airing sports events that were blacked out on local TV.

The commission says the rule was outdated and unnecessary. It was originally adopted to help boost ticket sales in the 1970s.

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler says NFL teams have hidden behind the rule for 40 years, but no more.

But Wheeler acknowledges it may not spell the end to sports blackouts. The NFL would still be able to privately negotiate its own rules with cable and satellite companies — those agreements just wouldn't have the backing of the federal government.

North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren has apologized to Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher for his comments accusing the top-ranked Seminoles of faking injuries to slow down the Wolfpack's offense.

Doeren released a statement Tuesday morning on the program's Twitter account and extended his apology to FSU's staff, players and fans. He says he left an emotional locker room after Saturday's 56-41 loss and "took those emotions with me to the press conference," where he first raised the issue.

He did it again Monday when asked at his weekly news conference, and Fisher denied that his team faked injuries.

Doeren says he has the "utmost respect" for Fisher, his staff and players and that the focus should be on a great game won by the Seminoles.

Chinese tennis star Li Na received a tearful send-off on center court at the China Open on Tuesday, complete with hugs from her former competitors, cheers from home fans, and a bouquet of flowers from Rafael Nadal.

Wearing a black pantsuit and her hair pulled back in a low bun, Li fought back tears as Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova thanked her for being an inspiration and friend, and WTA chairman Stacey Allaster called her "the player of this decade who has made the most impact and growth on women's tennis."

Li then thanked the fans for always encouraging her, and did a lap around the court, waving goodbye.

The two-time major winner announced her retirement this month before her hometown Wuhan Open, citing recurring knee injuries.

The Oakland Raiders will have a new head coach.

A person with knowledge of the move has confirmed that Dennis Allen is out after just two-plus seasons and an 8-28 record.

The decision comes one day after the team lost its 10th straight contest dating to last season, 38-14 to Miami in London. The Raiders went 4-12 in each of their two full seasons under Allen and haven't had a winning season since capturing the 2002 AFC championship.

Allen was the first coach hired by the Raiders following the death of owner Al Davis.

The NFL says Kansas City Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah should not have been penalized for dropping to his knees in prayer in the end zone after an interception.

NFL spokesman Michael Signora writes on Tuesday that "the officiating mechanic in this situation is not to flag a player who goes to the ground as part of religious expression.

Signora says "there should have been no penalty on the play."

The flag thrown in the fourth quarter of Kansas City's 41-14 victory over New England on Monday night touched off a firestorm on social media, with many wondering how it was different from players dropping to one knee in Christian prayer.
