Alliant Energy has recieved a go ahead from the Iowa Utilities Board to go ahead with plans to build a 600 megawatt, combined cycle natural gas facility in the Marshalltown area.

Company President Tom Aller was pleased with the news and says the company is in the process of obtaining state and federal permits needed to move forward with the project.

If all goes well construction could begin next year and the generating station could be operational by 2017.
