Texas company proposes oil pipeline through Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Texas company wants to run through Iowa an underground pipeline that would carry crude oil from North Dakota's Bakken oil fields to Illinois.

The pipeline route in Iowa would begin in Lyon County and slice southeast through 15 other counties and exit Iowa at Lee County. The pipeline would end at Patoka, Illinois, where the oil would have railroad access to several markets.

Energy Transfer Partners LP, of Dallas, is proposing the pipeline, which would carry at least 320,000 barrels a day in a 30-inch diameter pipe.

The project faces Iowa regulatory reviews from the Utilities Board and the Department of Natural Resources. The company wants to begin operation of the pipeline by the end of 2016.
