Houston's Dallas Keuchel failed to get his 13th win as the KC Royals beat the Astros 5-1. Winning pitcher Yordano Ventura allowed one run on six hits to up his record to 5-7. The right-hander, who won 14 games last year, was demoted to Triple-A Omahaon Tuesday and then recalled the next day after the Royals learned left-hander Jason Vargas would miss the rest of the year with an elbow injury.

Yadier Molina came through with an eighth-inning bases-loaded, three-run triple to the opposite field to rally the St. Louis Cardinals past the Chicago White Sox 3-2. That's the major league-leading 60th victory for the NL Central leaders. It was thefirst triple for the All-Star catcher since 2011, and only the fourth of his career.

The AL Central-leading Kansas City Royals touched Pittsburgh's 13-game winner Gerrit Cole for three runs in the eighth inning to break up a scoreless duel in their 3-1 victory over the Pirates. Jarrod Dyson's two-run single was the big hit in theeighth.

Royals closer Greg Holland struck out Gregory Polanco with the bases loaded for the final out. Kansas City is now are 20 games over .500. Holland has 21 saves in 24 tries.

Iowan Zach Johnson has won the British Open in a four-hole playoff over Lewis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman. It's the second major golf championship for the Cedar Rapids native. Johnson described himself as a "normal guy" from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, when he won the Masters in 2007. And now? He says: "I'm a normal guy from Cedar Rapids ... with a green jacket that has something that most guys don't get to drink out of right now."

Busch has won the last two Cup races and has three victories since missing the first 11 events with a fractured leg and anklesuffered at Daytona in February. The Southeastern Conference plans to keep alleged domestic assault assailants off their rosters even if it means they land in a rival league. SEC schools passed a rule in May barring the signing of any athlete disciplined for serious misconduct at another college stop. The new rule defines a serious offense as "sexual assault, domestic violence or other forms of sexual violence."

They're off again at soggy St. Andrews, after a more than three-hour rain delay that means the second round of the British Open won't be completed until tomorrow morning.

Parts of the 18th hole were so flooded that teams of workers with push brooms swept ankle-deep water into the Swilcan Burn.

Forecasters are predicting more inclement weather, including some blustery showers later in the day along with strong winds.

The delay will force some players to return Saturday morning to complete their second rounds. That will almost surely include first-round leader Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth who is two shots back and bidding for a third straight major.

Zach Johnson, Retief Goosen (reh-TEEF' GOO'-sehn) and Jason Day are one shot back, as are Robert Streb, Paul Lawrie and Danny Willett.

Tiger Woods was two groups behind Johnson and Spieth, and in danger of missing the cut after a first-round 76.

The San Francisco Giants have signed shortstop Everth Cabrera to a minor league contract. General manager Bobby Evans says Cabrera is scheduled to join San Francisco's Arizona rookie league team initially then move on to Triple-A Sacramento when ready. The 28-year-old Cabrera appeared in 29 games for Baltimore this season, batting .208 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs before his release last month.

A San Francisco bar has filed suit against the NFL and DirecTV over the league's Sunday Ticket package.

Ninth Inning Inc. says DirecTV's exclusive right to broadcast certain NFL games is an illegal monopoly that raises costs for bars and restaurants. The suit says a bar or restaurant with a fire code occupancy between 51 and 100 people will pay a little more than $2,300 for Sunday Ticket this year.

Tuesday's major league All-Star Game drew a record-low television rating, earning a 6.6 rating and a 12 share on Fox. The previous low was a 6.8 in 2012. Fox reports that the broadcast averaged 10.9 million viewers, down from the 11.3 million for Derek Jeter's final All-Star game appearance.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made Justin Houston the highest-paid linebacker in NFL history, giving him a six-year, $101 million package in which more than half the money is guaranteed. Houston has made three consecutive Pro Bowls and was the key to Kansas City's front-seven dominance last year. He broke Derrick Thomas's franchise record with 22 sacks in 2014, a half-sack off Michael Strahan's NFL single-season record.

Deron Williams has joined his hometown Mavericks after clearing waivers and accepting a buyout with the Nets. Williams accepted a two-year, $10 million package that includes a player option for the second season. He averaged 13 points and 6.6 assists while starting 55 of his 68 games last season.

The Orlando Magic have signed free-agent center Jason Smith as the team tries to bolster its front court. The 29-year-old Smith is entering his eighth NBA season and joins his fourth NBA team. He spent last season with the New York Knicks, averaging eight points and four rebounds in 82 games.

Make it three straight wins for the American League in the All-Star game.

Game MVP Mike Trout homered on the game's fourth pitch and Brian Dozier added a solo blast in the eighth inning of the AL's 6-3 win over the National League at Cincinnati. Trout went deep off NL starter Zack Greinke (GREHN'-kee), who entered the All-Star break on a streak of 35 2/3 scoreless innings. Greinke struck out four of the last six hitters he faced.

The Junior Circuit went ahead to stay with a two-run fifth off loser Clayton Kershaw. Prince Fielder snapped a 1-1 tie with an RBI single before Lorenzo Cain doubled home Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz).

Andrew McCutchen led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to get the Senior Circuit within 3-2, a half-inning after Jacob deGrom (deh-GRAHM') struck out the side on just 10 pitches. But the AL padded its lead on Fielder's sac-fly in the sixth and Dozier's eighth-inning blast.

Fielder finished with two RBIs and Manny Machado chipped in an RBI double as the American League won despite only seven hits.

David Price struck out two in a hitless fourth inning to get the win.

The National now leads the overall series 43-41-2

Pete Rose received a long ovation as he made a rare on-field appearance before the game. Rose, Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin and Joe Morgan were introduced on the field after being voted the Cincinnati Reds' Franchise Four players as part of a Major League Baseball promotion.

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier has become only the second player to win the Home Run Derby on his home field. Frazier banged out 39 homers and closed the event by beating Dodgers rookie Joc Pederson 15-14 in the final. Pederson was trying to become the first rookie since Wally Joyner in 1986 to win or share the title.

Novak Djokovic has successfully defended his Wimbledon title by knocking off the man he beat in last year's final. The top-ranked player outlasted longtime rival Roger Federer, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The victory makes Djokovic the first person to have won two Wimbledon championships in a row since Federer collected his fifth consecutive trophy in 2007. Djokovic has won three of the last five men's titles at the All-England Club, and nine Grand Slam titles overall.

The top-seeded Djokovic broke No. 2 Federer four times and saved six of the seven break points he faced.

The match was the 40th between the two and the series is now tied at 20-20.

Starling Marte, Francisco Cervelli (sur-VEH'-lee) and Gregory Polanco hit RBI singles in the bottom of the 10th after Randal Grichuk (GRIH'-chihk) hit a two-run double to put the Cardinals ahead 5-3. The Pirates took three of four from the NL Central-leading Cards in the series to pull within 2 ½ games first place.

Leaders of the host city for baseball's All-Star Game say Cincinnati is ready for its close-up.

After more than two years of planning and sprucing up, organizers say everything is in place for a smooth, safe and fun five days of events. MLB's FanFest opened Friday morning, and the city will have concerts, exhibits, celebrity softball, the home run derby and other activities finally capped by Tuesday night's game.

Cincinnati is eager to showcase itself and shed any lingering images of a dull Midwestern burg with racial turmoil in its recent past. City Manager Harry Black predicts the world "will be impressed" by what it sees of today's Cincinnati.

A heavy police presence Is planned to keep things safe, and motorists are urged to plan ahead for expected congestion.

Throngs of young girls and other fans of the U.S. women's soccer team have turned out early for a parade celebrating its Women's World Cup victory.

The parade-goers started gathering at 3:30 a.m. Friday along the Canyon of Heroes, a stretch of Broadway where the nation's largest city has honored its legends. Two hours before the 11 a.m. start, the crowd already was three to four deep along the route.

One of the floats will carry the tournament's most valuable player, Carli Lloyd, along with other players and Mayor Bill de Blasio. The ticker-tape parade will be followed by a ceremony at City Hall.

The U.S. squad defeated Japan 5-2 on Sunday in Canada to win its first World Cup since 1999.

The United States has returned to the top of the FIFA women's rankings after winning the World Cup.

The U.S. toppled Germany after beating Japan 5-2 in Sunday's final in Vancouver to collect the top prize in women's soccer for the first time in 16 years.

Germany finished fourth in Canada after losing to England in the third-place game.

England moved up a place to fifth, behind France and Japan, after its best Women's World Cup showing.

Tour of Austria organizers say no action will be taken against Belarussian rider Branislau Samoilau for allegedly racially abusing a member of the African MTN-Qhubeka team.

MTN filed a complaint with the UCI race jury after Wednesday's fourth stage, claiming its Eritrean rider Natnael Berhane had been victim of racist remarks by Samoilau, who rides for the Polish CCC Sprandi Polkowice team.

Tour spokesman Martin Roseneder says the race jury "has decided not to take further action as both riders have meanwhile settled their quarrel."

According to MTN spokesman Veit Hammer, Samoilau will have to make a donation to the team's foundation, which is collecting money to buy 5,000 bikes for African children.

Hammer says the team was also targeted by racist insults at the Spanish Vuelta last year.

The Mavericks have acquired center Zaza Pachulia from Milwaukee in a move for a potential starter after missing out on DeAndre Jordan in free agency.

Dallas sent a future second-round pick to the Bucks on Thursday for the 31-year-old veteran from the Republic of Georgia. Pachulia started 45 of his 73 games for Milwaukee last season, averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

The 12-year veteran started all six games of the Bucks' first-round playoff loss to Chicago. The 6-foot-11 Pachulia was the 42nd overall pick in the second round by Orlando in 2003. After one-year stints with Orlando and Milwaukee, he spent eight seasons in Atlanta before returning to the Bucks.

Pachulia has 317 starts in 815 games, with career averages of 7.0 points and 5.6 rebounds.

Peralta's dramatic two-run, two-out homer in the bottom of the ninth gave the Cards another come-from-behind victory, 6-5 over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Miguel Montero cracked a three-run go-ahead double in the sixth inning to give the Cubs a 5-4 lead which they held until the ninth.

That's the Cardinals' major league-leading 26th come-from-behind victory.

Paulo Orlando launched a walk-off grand slam off Brad Boxberger with one out in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Royals past Tampa Bay 9-5 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Orlando had homered just once in his first 116 major league at-bats before going deep against the All-Star reliever. Alex Gordon smacked a solo homer and Kendrys (KEN'-drihs) Morales hit a two-run single as the Royals overcame home runs by James Loney and Evan Longoria.

Kansas City swept the twinbill by getting four RBIs from Alex Gordon in a 7-1 win over the Rays. Gordon was 4-for-5 with a two-run double and a pair of RBI singles. Alcides (al-SEE'-dehs) Escobar also laced a two-run double in the Royals' third consecutive win.

Jake Arrieta pitched into the seventh inning and collected a career-high two hits as the Chicago Cubs downed St. Louis 7-4 in Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader. Anthony Rizzo smacked a two-run homer while the Cubs scored four times in the eighth after the Cardinals pulled within 3-2. Chris Denorfia had two hits and three RBIs as the Cubbies beat the Redbirds for the first time in their last six meetings.

The Cubs completed the sweep by putting together a three-run seventh in a 5-3 victory. Addison Russell singled home the tying run in the seventh before Jonathan Herrera scored on a throwing error by reliever Kevin Siegrist.

Rory McIlroy's ability to play in next week's British Open is iffy after he ruptured his ligament in his left ankle playing soccer over the weekend. His spokesman says the world's No. 1-ranked golfer is definitely out of this week's Scottish Open and will decide on the British Open after he assesses the severity of the injury.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning at Wrigley Field last night, but the rest of the game belonged to the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Redbirds scored twice in the seventh and four more in the ninth to beat the Cubbies 6-0. Yadier Molina (YAH'-dee-ehr moh-LEE'-nuh) snapped the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly and Randal Grichuk (GRIH'-chuhk) added a two-run double as the Cards improved to a major league-best 54-28.

John Lackey scattered six hits in seven innings to help the NL Central leaders keep their six-game advantage over Pittsburgh.
