DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Senate Government Oversight Committee has passed a bill guaranteeing state workers new whistleblower protections. The action comes a day after the committee released a recording of a former Iowa Veterans Home worker who detailed claims of sexual harassment and intimidation from the former head of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
The committee released the February 2012 recording Tuesday of Lisa Purvis, the former marketing director at the home, who was interviewed by a state human resources officer about alleged behavior of the home's former Commandant David Worley.
Purvis says Worley frequently harassed workers and veterans but remained on the job until his October 2013 resignation. An active home telephone number for Worley couldn't be located.
The bill could go to the Senate floor as early as Thursday.
