IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Police have linked a former Iowa City taxi driver to reports of sexual assault involving female cab passengers.

Iowa City police say 58-year-old Rufino Ruiz has been charged with two counts of simple misdemeanor assault. He remains at the Johnson County Jail. Court records do not list an attorney.

Police say Ruiz, of West Liberty, made unwanted sexual advances involving groping toward at least two female passengers. He faces charges in connection to alleged incidents in September and January. Police are investigating him for links to other similar reports of assault in January and February.

The alleged incidents occurred while Ruiz worked for VinaSun Taxicab. The company's owner says Ruiz stopped working there about a month ago.
