Officials: 1 hospitalized in Iowa house explosion

GARWIN, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say one person has been hospitalized following a house explosion in Tama County.

Gladbrook Fire Chief Matt Koester tells Des Moines television station KCCI that a person was found Thursday outside the house, located northwest of Garwin. The person was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, but additional information was not available.

Koester says firefighters are trying to control the blaze caused by the explosion to see if anyone else was inside the house.

Tama County Sheriff Dennis Kucera tells Cedar Rapids television station KCRG that a service technician was working on a furnace before the explosion Thursday morning.

Authorities have not released additional information. Multiple messages left for the Tama County Sheriff's Office was not immediately returned.
