Iowa Valley Community College District Chancellor Chris Duree on Wednesday at the Districts Board of Directors meeting says school was called off last Monday due to an energy alert that was called to their attention and also because of cold pipes and potential water line problems during the below zero cold snap.

Chancellor Duree says there were issues in the dorms and at the Orpheum Theatre downtown.

Also Chancellor Duree was nominated by his peers to the Des Moines Registers list of People To Watch in 2014, he did not become the number one person to watch, but the Chancellor was flattered at the honor, he says his wife told him she would be watching him closely during 2014.

In addition the school will be having a sale of office items in the Babe Harder Gym on the MCC campus between 11 and three today. Spokeswoman  Robin Anctil says the items will be cash and carry.
