DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The nation's winningest prep baseball coach is calling it a career.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association says coach Gene Schultz has resigned after 45 years and 1,754 wins at Kee High School in Lansing, Iowa.

Schultz took over at Kee in 1969 and led them to nine state titles, tied for the most in school history. Schultz helped put the Hawks in the state championship game 16 times, and his 32 state tournament wins is also an Iowa record.

Schultz also coached boys basketball at Kee, racking up 398 wins.
