Marshalltown, MMSC has Big Changes Planned

Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center has announced plans for a 75-thousand-square-foot hospital replacement project. John Hughes, CEO of MMSC says improvements are needed.
"We're behind," Hughes says, "and we intend to move forward and become the modern healthcare facility that our community deserves."
The plans for the new 30-acre hospital at the southwest corner of highway 30 and highway 14 will help aid the patients that need the hospitals care. Hughes points out that, "We are limited by our facility." At the current location, the hospital staff feel like they cannot work to their fullest extent of patient hospitality. "A new facility will allow us a more efficient, patient friendly environment that people, quite frankly, have come to expect," Hughes says.
Accommodation is the key for Hughes. The inconvenience that the current MMSC facility has was confirmed by Hughes, as he pressed for the urgency for easier patient access ability. "The primary thing that we are focusing on is the efficient delivery of care," Hughes says," Some of out patients walk the length of two football fields from the time they leave handicapped parking to where they need to get the services they need."

And the idea for the new hospital was a collective effort. From the CEO to nurses, everyone has some form of input, as Hughes explained,"Staff had a lot of input in how this was done. We think it's important that the folks that are actually doing the work, help us in how best to do the work."
The first of three phases will cost an estimated 35-million-dollars. Groundbreaking is set for the spring of 2014.
