on Saturday night netted 720 dollars for the

school.

School officials say there was a good crowd

on hand, 10 teams participated.

Another trivia night is scheduled for the

Governor Terry Branstad will help Hy-Vee celebrate the 50th anniversary of its iconic jingle at the Hy-Vee store in Urbandale.

During the event, Gov. Branstad will sign a proclamation declaring Sept. 15 - 21, 2014, as "Hy-Vee Helpful Smile Week" in Iowa.

Hy-Vee officials, including Chairman and CEO Randy Edeker, will speak about the history and significance of the jingle's brand promise to customers.

In honor of the anniversary, the Urbandale High School show choir will be in attendance for a live performance.

Hy Vee has numerous stores in many midwest states and has a store

on South Center Street in Marshalltown.

The names of the two people who will serve as Grand

Marshalls for the Oktemberfest Saturday Morning

Parade have been made known.

Parade coordinator Cindy Brodin says Doctor Robert Young

and Mary Bartine will serve as co Grand Marshalls for the

Parade which will take place Saturday morning

September 27th.

The parade assembles in the area of Miller Middle School

then makes its way east down Main Street in Marshalltown.

It is just one event of a four day annual festival in Marshalltown.

Hillary Clinton appeared and spoke at Senator Tom Harkin`s Steak Fry at rural Indianola
Sunday. She intimated but did not declare formally her Presidential aspirations and intentions. Better than six-thousand Democratic Party activists were drawn to the event. Harkin will be retiring after his present term, he is 74 years old.

Life Safety Achievement Award for its fire prevention accomplishments

in 2013 by the National Association of State Fire Marshals Fire

Research and Education Foundation in partnership with Grinnell

Mutual Reinsurance Company.

The award was announced by Butch Browning, president

Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley has a friend in Carole King.

Braley's campaign announced Thursday that the singer-songwriter would meet with supporters at four locations around the state on Friday. The four-term congressman from Waterloo is locked in a tight Senate race with Republican Joni Ernst. Both are vying to win the Senate seat vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin.

King, whose 1971 album Tapestry won four Grammy awards, will appear in Council Bluffs, Creston, Newton and Iowa City to thank volunteers.

She is the second musical star from the 1970s to back Braley. Last month Joe Walsh, of the Eagles, promoted a fundraising effort that gave contributors a chance to win tickets to an Eagles concert. For $5, contributors could be entered to win tickets and go backstage.

The Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department said the flags are the key part of the Tribute Trail at the park.

Crews rescued a man who became trapped in a grain bin south of Newton, fire officials said.

Rescuers from four fire departments were called Tuesday morning to a home south of Newton where the man was trapped in a bin filled with corn.

The responders used a grain bin rescue tube from the Kellogg Fire Department to surround the man and protect him from being crushed by the corn, officials said. Because of all the dust and floating debris, air also was given to the man, whose name wasn't released.

The Newton Daily News reports rescuers cut holes in the bottom of the bin to release corn and pumped corn into a truck, allowing the man to eventually get out an access door.

The area United Way yearly fundraising effort has been teed up and kicked off.
Things began Wednesday with a luncheon in Marshalltown at the Fisher Community
Center. Spokeswoman Nancy Steveson says the goal for this year is 786-thousand dollars.
The theme this year is: Change Won't Happen Without You".
The Co-Chairs this year for the fundraising event are local businessman Ken Huge and
Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper.

The Mid Iowa Community Action agency has planned a candidates forum devoted to the subject of poverty next Tuesday.

The forum will take place at seven p-m in room 605 of the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Center on the campus of Marshalltown Community College.

Candidates for Iowa House and Senate and County Board of Supervisors have been invited to participate.

Candidates will be asked specific question for which they will have a time limit to answer and question will also be taken from the audience.

In Marshalltown we recieved a total of 1.59 inches of rain

from the recent systems that passed through the area.

Around the state there were areas that got quite a bit more rain

including Afton which recieved six point one inches worth, New Virginia

four point five, Greenfield 4.25, Spring Hill 4.2 and Arispe which recieved

four inches worth.

Osceola had some flash flood problems both just south of town

and in town as well.

There were hail reports out of Corning, Lenox and Prescott.

At last check 15 Iowa counties had River Flood Warnings posted

in the aftermath of the rain.

Forecasters say a cooling trend is underway with low temps down

into the thirties Friday night and Saturday morning.

Authorities have suspended their search for a man who didn't return from a swim in Marshall County.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that evidence suggests that the body of Kevin Kroener, 52, is somewhere in the river. His vehicle was found in a remote area by the river near Albion.

Kroener's family reported him missing Saturday afternoon after he didn't return from a swim. Volunteers and officers searched the water and land along the river.

Marshalltown had an inch of rain from the latest precipitation that passed through the area.

Around the state other areas got quite a bit of rain:

Afton in Union County recieved 6 point one inches, New Virginia 4.5, Greenfield 4.25, Spring Hill in Warren County 4.2 and Arispe 4 inches worth.

As of early this morning13 Iowa counties were under flash flood warnings, 13 were under flash flood watches, and 8 counties had flood warnings in effect, in west, southwest, south central, eastern and southwestern Iowa.

At the latest Marshall County Board of Supervisor meeting, after much discussion, by a split vote, gave a raise to County Director of Buildings and Grounds Paul Zobel, his salary was raised to that of the previous Director. Chairman Dave Thompson voted no, but he said not on the merits of the position but that it was not done at the normal budget time of the year.

Kenn Vinson, Community Liason for Alliant Energy gave an update on construction of the M-G-S and also presented the Supervisors with a commemorative shovel from the recent groundbreaking in token of their ongoing support.

Vinson says work is progressing at a pretty good pace, construction on East Nevada Street will be done by the end of October, when that is done a portion of Quarry Road used for access will be closed off.

The Supervisors passed the second reading of an ordinance that would allow the county and each of the cities in the county to bid on and purchase the delinquent taxes of properties that are abandoned.

Iowa including the primary counties in the listening area. The watch kicks into
effect tonight and continues through 7 am on Wednesday.

The city of Des Moines plans on placing more than 3,200 flags near a popular lake to honor victims of 9/11. The Des Moines Parks and Recreation says the "Tribute Trail" at Gray's Lake will feature 3,213 individual flags to represent the victims. They will be placed 10 feet off the trail on the west side of the lake.

At the latest meeting of the Marshalltown School Board, Vice President Jennifer Wilson
said as she understood it, completion of work on Phase One of the Roundhouse Refurbishment Project would not be completed until spring.

The Marshalltown City Council Monday pledged their continued support
to a local Not In Our Town Anti bullying effort.
Mike Schlesinger is publisher of the Marshalltown Times Republican
and says he was inspired to start the group after reading an editiorial in
the Sioux City Journal after a teen there took his life after continued
bullying by his peers. He asked for the cities support as the local organization
applied for a so called Gold Star designation from the national organization.
Marshalltown would be the first city in the country to recieve such a designation,
the city is the only one in the country to be a part of Not in Our Town without
a hate incident having taken place.

reccomendation to name David Rierson of the Kansas

City Missouri area as a possible candidate as the new

Fire Chief of Marshalltown.

Authorities and volunteers are still looking for a missing swimmer after a weekend search in Marshall County was unsuccessful.

The family of 52-year-old Kevin Kroener reported him missing Saturday afternoon after he didn't return from a swim in the Iowa River. His vehicle was located in a remote area by the river near Albion.

Chief Deputy Steve Hoffman says about 30 volunteers and a K-9 unit searched for Kroener on Sunday. He says authorities focused on the area near a trestle bridge popular with local divers.

Authorities probed the river Sunday evening after he wasn't found on land. They will continue the search on Monday.

The Marshall County Sheriffs department reported

a two vehicle accident in the area of the diagonal

highway and U-S Highway 30.

The drivers were identified as 57 year old Cheyenne

Griffen of Colorado Springs Colorado in a 2003 Ford Ranger

and 24 year old David Dobrzynski of Orlando Park Illinois

in a 2013 Hyudai Elantra.

Griffen had to be removed from her vehicle which was totaled

by mechanical means and Dobrzynski was cited for Failure

to Yield the Right of Way and Failure to Obey a Yield Sign.

A Career Fair for military job seekers will be held in the Marshalltown Community College

Activity Center on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 12:30 to 4 pm.

More than 40 employers will be on hand to conduct on-the-spot interviews and provide

information to current and former military personnel.

Career Fair partners include Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve ,

Iowa Workforce Development, Iowa Works/Iowa Valley, JobDig, Home Base Iowa,

Hero 2 Hired, Marshalltown Community College, and Iowa Valley Continuing Education.

IVCE will have a booth where military job seekers can find information about local career

and technical training, as well as information about instructor openings for those training programs.

An Iowa woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she was kept in an isolation cell at a state juvenile home for a total of 280 days.

Court records show 20-year-old Jessica Turner, of Okoboji, filed the lawsuit in August.

It names the state of Iowa, as well as officials at the Iowa Department of Human Services and the Iowa Juvenile Home.

Turner claims the state violated her constitutional rights and violated laws and regulations on the use of isolation at the Toledo facility. She says she spend "numerous consecutive weeks" in isolation.

Turner is seeking unspecified damages.

The home closed in January after questions were raised about the treatment of teenagers. Records show the state has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit.

The man who helped create and nuture a railroad train and

track at Camp Courageous at Monticello has died.

Gerry Rohr was from Monticello and after a train was donated in

2007 he volunteered to help with the project. Charlie Becker of

Camp Courageous says Rohr layed the track, put in the switches

and also oversaw putting the train on the track including a new

engine for the locomotive.

He says seven thousand campers with special needs come to the camp

each year.

Becker says two new passenger cars were designed and added to the mix.

He says Mohr who passed away of an apparent heart attack gave a final

gift to the camp in the form of expanding the train to Lake Todd

which is newly created.

The latest crop report for the State of Iowa for last week

is out from the USDA.

Word is that topsoil is 75% adequate and subsoil moisture is 76%

adequate.

90% of the corn is in the dough stage.

96% of the beans are setting pods.

76% of the corn is in good shape while 73% of the beans are in

good shape.

The most rain last week was at Persia in Harrison County with

7.55 inches worth.

The highest temperature was 95 at Donnelson while the coolest

temperature was 53 at Sibley.

Iowa wildlife officials say the pheasant population is high ahead of hunting season.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the annual August roadside pheasant count recorded the highest number of birds since 2008. That's a statewide average of about 17 birds per 30 miles.

A record low 40,000 hunters pursued pheasants last year. The latest roadside index indicates hunters could harvest more than 250,000 birds.

The department says it is working to enhance the state's habitats for pheasant and quail. That includes grant funding and a partnership with the Pheasants Forever group.

The regular pheasant season is Oct. 25 through Jan. 10. The state's youth pheasant season is set for Oct. 18 and Oct. 19.

Authorities say a pilot is uninjured after his plane flipped over during an emergency landing in a soybean field.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office tells says 31-year-old Jason Stone was traveling from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to the Marshalltown Municipal Airport on Monday. Authorities say Stone's single-engine plane experienced engine problems and he was forced to land.

They say the plane got stuck in the mud during the landing and flipped over. Stone was the only occupant of the plane and wasn't injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to investigate.

The KFJB/KIX 101. 2014-2015 Sportsbook is out and is

being distributed.

The 80 page edition features High School, College, and

professional schedules plus information on programing

and personalities from the two stations.

The Sportsbook is available at our studios during regular

business hours and also at retail locations in the listening

area.

The book will also be distributed at the Marshalltown

versus Newton football game next Friday night at Leonard

Cole Field.

There will be a Labor Day Parade in Des Moines

today.

According to Lance Coles of the AFL-CIO the

entrants line up at the State Capitol building,

then the parade goes east down Grand Avenue

to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

A post parade celebration is being held at

Labor Park which is at 4640 Northwest Morningstar

Drive in the far northern part of Des Moines.

will be closed today.

The Marshalltown Parks and Rec Department office is

closed today.

The Marshall County Courthouse is closed.

Banks are closed today.

Marshalltown City Hall is closed today.

Marshalltown recieved 2.18 inches of rain Sunday night from a

storm that moved through the area.

In Denison in Crawford County a person was injured when they

were struck by lightning, there was also flooding after a dam failed

in heavy rain and a highway was affected.

A garage was destroyed at Harcourt in Hamilton County.

A funnell cloud was sighted at rural Boone.

80 mile per hour winds were clocked at Bayard and Yale in

Guthrie County.

At Minburn there was flooding that impacted U-S highway 169.

Closer to home there were 66 mile per hour winds at Iowa Falls, 60

mile per hour winds at Steamboat Rock, heavy rain at Belle Plaine,

and 59 mile per hour winds at Prairie City, 71 mile per hour winds

at Knoxville.
