Local Christmas Tree Farms are Ready for Families

by KIX101.1 /1230 KFJB News Department posted Nov 25 2013 4:03PM

Christmas Day is quickly creeping up on us and everyone will be looking for a tree for Santa to put his gifts under. And what’s better than getting one from a local Iowa Tree Farm?

Ryan Fox from Victorian Pines in State Center says more people come to them during the Holiday Season to get a tree than they have before.

"What I fid surprising," Fox says, "is every year more and more people are getting more trees."

That's not a bad trend for Fox and other tree farms across the state. He does say some recent trends have also helped support tree growers like Victorian Pines.

"You know there's a general push to go green or be organic."

Fox then adds it's the staying local movement this is really pushing this new trend.

And Fox says it’s easy to buy a tree from a store, but there is something special about going to the farm itself.

"I think people are searching for that tradition, you know, that niche."

Still, Fox says, it's more than that.

"It makes Christmas when families can go to a farm and find a tree. You can't get that at any big box store."

There is a whole website dedicated to help find Tree Farm near you all thanks to the Iowa Christmas Tree Growers Association. They have an interactive map that allows you to find each farm by name, distance from your zip code, or by county.
