Iowa officials promote preservation grants

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The State Historical Society of Iowa is reminding Iowa residents to apply for grant money that can be used for preservation purposes.

The division of the state Department of Cultural Affairs says the deadline to apply for the Historical Resource Development Program and the Country School program is April 25.

The development program aims to preserve and educate about historic resources in the categories of documentary collections, historic preservation and museums. The school program helps preserve and maintain the state's one- and two-room country schools.

Applications must be submitted online. Hard copies of application materials must be turned in manually or be postmarked by April 25.

Projects funded in this grant cycle will begin in July. They must be completed by Nov. 30, 2016.
