ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa Democrat who'd criticized Gov. Terry Branstad for a speeding incident has reported being ticketed by a state trooper.
Gubernatorial candidate Jack Hatch said Monday that he'd been pulled over on Interstate 80 in Altoona and cited for going 65 in a 55 mph zone. Hatch acknowledged his car was going 68 mph in the construction zone. A State Patrol spokesman, Sgt. Scott Bright, says that because road workers were behind concrete barriers at the time, the trooper didn't include the enhanced charge for speeding in a construction zone.
A year ago the governor's state vehicle carrying him and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds was clocked traveling 84 mph in a 65-mph highway zone. But the vehicle was not stopped after responding officers learned it was the governor's state vehicle.
