St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina will try to play in the NL Division Series while wearing a splint to protect his injured left thumb. Molina hasn't played since suffering a partially torn ligament on Sept. 20 making a tag at the plate. The Cardinals said the injury was still present, and he will test the splint during workouts the next few days before the team decides whether he's on the postseason roster.

The Baltimore Ravens, down by 13 points in the second half and facing the prospect of an 0-4 start, rallied with a 23-20 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Justin Tucker, who forced overtime with a 42-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in regulation, won it with a 52-yarder with 5:08 left in OT.

That came after Pittsburgh's Josh Scobee (SKOH'-bee) missed a pair of kicks in regulation that would have given the Steelers some cushion. In overtime, the Steelers failed to convert a pair of fourth downs in Baltimore territory rather than risk Scobee trying another field goal.

Justin Forsett (fohr-SEHT') ran for 150 yards for the Ravens. Joe Flacco completed 20 of 33 for 189 yards and threw a touchdown pass and did just enough late to help the Ravens end the worst start in franchise history.

Michael Vick threw for 124 yards and a score while starting in place of injured Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH'-lihs-bur-gur), but the 2-2 Steelers (2-2) bumbled late and Baltimore took advantage to get in the win column.

In their last 31 regular season meetings, the Ravens lead the Steelers 16-15 with 21 of those games decided by seven points or less. Five of those games have gone into overtime.

Ben Roethlisberger's season doesn't appear to be over. Still, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have to move forward indefinitely without their star quarterback.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Monday Roethlisberger has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and there is no timetable for his return. Michael Vick will start Thursday night when the Steelers (2-1) host winless Baltimore (0-3).

Roethlisberger left in the third quarter of Sunday's 12-6 win over St. Louis after the knee bent awkwardly while getting sacked by Rams safety Mark Barron. An MRI taken late Sunday night revealed no major damage, leaving the door open for Roethlisberger to return at some point.

Vick completed 5 of 6 passes for 38 yards after Roethlisberger's departure.

The Chicago Cubs are playoff-bound for the first time in seven years.

Although the Cubs lost at Wrigley yesterday afternoon, they claimed at least a wild-card berth when the Giants fell in Oakland 5-4 last night. The Giants led 2-1 until Billy Burns hit a two-run homer in the third, one inning before Billy Butler smacked a solo shot.

Matt Duffy hit a two-run homer for the Giants, who are in danger of missing the playoffs after winning the World Series. That also happened to San Francisco in 2013 and 2011.

The Cubs fell to a division rival as Gerrit Cole picked up his 18th victory and Michael Morse delivered the go-ahead hit as the Pirates downed Chicago, 3-2 at Wrigley Field. The Pirates' ace limited the Cubs to a run and four hits while striking out eight in seven innings. Cole also delivered an RBI single to open the scoring, but the game was tied 1-1 until Morse hit a run-scoring single in the seventh.
