AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg has promoted graduate assistant Nate Loenser to director of player development.

Loenser, a native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, spent seven years as an assistant at Southern Mississippi under past Cyclones coach Larry Eustachy. He was the head coach at Spirit Lake High in Iowa from 2010-13 before joining Hoiberg's staff a year ago.

Hoiberg says Loenser has proven to be a "great asset" since joining the staff.

Loenser replaces Charlie Henry, who was moved up to an assistant coaching spot following last season.
