Iowa State appears primed for long NCAA run

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The next step for coach Fred Hoiberg's Iowa State program would be to make a long run in the NCAA tournament.

The third-seeded Cyclones have the pieces to make a push for the Final Four — and they're playing their best basketball at exactly the right time.

The Cyclones (26-7) beat Kansas State, Kansas and Baylor over three days to win the Big 12 tournament for the first time since 2000 and are by far the most dangerous team Hoiberg has had in four seasons at Iowa State.

The Cyclones open tournament play on Friday night against North Carolina Central (28-5).
