Iowa Premium Beef Requests TIF for Tama Plant

Representatives of Iowa Premium Beef addressed the Tama City Council this week regarding the company's request to connect to the city's sewer line for their human waste. The council approved that request, but made it clear that it would only be for human waste. Any plant waste would need to go through a line constructed by the company.

IBP reps also requested the city provide Tax Increment Financing (TIF) if and when the company starts to make improvements in the area. The council agreed to 100% of TIF Financing for the first 5 years, and then a graduating scale for the following 5, at 90,70,50,30, and 10%. The proposal will go to both sides legal council, and an official decision will be reached at the next city council meeting.

The council discussed finishing up a half block of sidewalk remaining near Tama High School going north. The

sidewalk will connect with sidewalk at the Toledo City limits, making sidewalk available from 13th street to Highway 63. The council was first approached by Tama citizens who were concerned with individuals walking alongside the highway.

The Council also approved the purchase by the city of a wheel loader for 87,000. The wheel loader will help dig graves as well as pick up snow.
