A new start-up food manufacturing company has opened it’s doors here in Marshalltown. Iowa Choice Harvest has opened it’s doors here in town and CEO Penny Brown Huber is ready to serve their mission.
"Our mission is to connect customers with Earth conscious Iowa farmers," Hughes says," who grow high quality fruits and vegtables."
She says Iowa Choice Harvest will help improve what we buy at our grocery stores and put on our table, all while keeping it local. They have a business model that will promote those who, literally, want to serve those in Iowa. The plan is focused on, "which processing method would be best to preserve Iowa fruits and vegetables and build a profitable food manufacturing business," a stated by Hughes at the ribbon cutting ceremony. And the focus is to remain positive about all the possibilities that
our "own backyard" has in store for us.
Bill Menner is the USDA Rural Development State Director and he attended the ribbon cutting for the company. Menner says he excited what this new organization can do with the promotion of Iowa growers.
"This sort of a food hub," Menner says, "really is the future for expanding access to local foods."
Menner emphasized that facilities like this can help promote small food producers to reach their fullest
potential. According to Menner," This gives them access to markets and to the sort of aggregation that's going to allow them to be successful."
Overall, the company’s main goal is to contribute to the dynamic local food system in Iowa.
