IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say an Iowa inmate who'd killed two police officers nearly 33 years ago has died.
A news release from the Iowa Corrections Department says James Michael Taylor died Tuesday at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The department says Taylor died of natural causes due to complications from an aortic aneurism.
Taylor, whose nickname was "T-Bone," was sentenced to life in prison for the July 1981 murders of Waterloo officers Wayne Rice and Michael Hoing. The officers were shot during a fracas that erupted after they responded to a complaint about a wild party. Taylor had been on parole at the time for a robbery conviction.
