News From the Marshalltown School District and McFarland Clinic:
Jodi Faustlin, Executive Director McFarland Clinic, on behalf of the Marshalltown McFarland physicians, presented supplies needed by the school nursing staff in the Marshalltown Community School District.
Two nebulizers and tubing for breathing treatments and 8 pulse oximeter finger readers were given to the district.
Students with asthma often need to be assessed, treated and monitored while at school. Sometimes medication is administered using a nebulizer machine that is prescribed by the health care provider.
A pulse oximeter complements the school nurses assessment of respiratory illness, asthma and cardiac problems. It provides information that the school nurse will use to determine the students overall health status. Since the pulse oximeter rapidly detects oxygen concentration, it is a quick and very effective assessment tool to determine an appropriate treatment.
