Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart will miss the start of his final season after fracturing his back in an accident on an all-terrain vehicle. Stewart-Haas Racing says Stewart sustained a "burst fracture of the L1 vertebra" when he crashed on an ATV Sunday. The team said he is expected to make a full recovery and race this year, but he will definitely miss what was expected to be his final Daytona 500.

Wes Washpun scored 14 points and made the go-ahead layup with 27 seconds left, and Northern Iowa held on to beat Evansville 57-54 on Wednesday night.

The Panthers built an 11-point lead and never trailed in the first half. The Purple Aces opened the second half on a 20-8 run and led 44-40 with 11 minutes left. Blake Simmons scored five points, and Egidijus Mockevicius and D.J. Balentine chipped in four apiece during the stretch.

There were four lead changes before Washpun gave the Panthers the lead for good. Jeremy Morgan blocked Jaylon Brown's potential game-tying jump shot with three seconds left. Morgan grabbed the rebound and then made two free throws to seal it.

Matt Bohannon added 13 points for Northern Iowa (13-11, 5-6 Missouri Valley Conference). Morgan finished with 12 points and two of the Panthers' five blocks.

Mockevicius led Evansville (18-6, 7-4) with 14 points.

Paige shot 10 of 17 from the field, none bigger than the 3 that gave West Virginia a 75-74 lead. The Mountaineers outrebounded the Cyclones 43-26, and Tarik Phillips grabbed his own missed free throw to seal it with 19 seconds left.

Georges Niang scored 20 points and Abdel Nader had 19 for Iowa State (16-6, 5-4), which lost consecutive games for the second time this season.

Novak Djokovic has maintained his perfect streak in six Australian Open finals with a 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 victory that sent Andy Murray to a fifth defeat in tournament's title match.

Djokovic equaled Roy Emerson's long-standing record of six Australian Open titles and increased his career haul to 11 Grand Slam titles, including four of the last five.

Murray became only the second man to lose five finals at one major. Ivan Lendl lost five and won three U.S. Open finals in the 1980s.

The 28-year-old Murray had his share of distractions. His wife is back in Britain expecting their first child in February and Murray's father-in-law was rushed to hospital by ambulance during the tournament.

In a Pro Bowl that pitted Team Michael Irvin against Team Jerry Rice, it was only fitting that the two teams would combine for 10 receiving touchdowns and over 800 passing yards.

Russell Wilson threw for 164 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions as Team Irvin rolled to a 49-27 victory over Team Rice. Once Wilson left, Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis (JAY'-mihs) Winston each threw for over 100 yards and two scores for Irvin's squad.

Allen Robinson and Delanie Walker each hauled in touchdown receptions of more than 50 yards in the third quarter to put Irvin's team well in control.

Travis Kelce was the busiest receiver on Team Rice, grabbing five passes for 91 yards and two TDs.

The eighth-ranked Maryland Terrapins shot just 33 percent from the field in the second half on Thursday, including an 0-for-10 mark from three-point range. They received just 11 points from leading scorer Melo (MEH'-loh) Trimble and blew a six-point lead in the second half, yet they still managed to knock off third-ranked Iowa in College Park.

Robert Carter Jr. and Rasheed Sulaimon (SOO'-lih-mahn) each scored 17 points as the Terps beat the Hawkeyes 74-68, ending Iowa's nine-game winning streak. Maryland clinched the win by hitting eight free throws over the final 49 seconds.

The Hawkeyes had their own problems in the first matchup of top-10 teams in College Park since the Terrapins left Cole Field House 13 years ago. Big Ten leading scorer Jarrod Uthoff scored just nine points on 2 of 13 shooting. Iowa also shot just 5-for-24 from 3-point range, 3-for-15 in the second half.

The win leaves the Terps 18-3 overall and 7-2 in the Big Ten. Iowa dropped to 16-4, 7-1 in the conference.

Moses Kingsley had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Arkansas, which has beaten the Aggies eight straight times at Bud Walton Arena. Dusty Hannahs and Anthlon Bell scored 17 apiece as the Razorbacks ended the Aggies' 10-game winning streak and dropped them to 17-3.

Danuel House scored 24 points for Texas A&M, which shot under 40 percent from the field.

Paul Jesperson hit 8 3-pointers and scored 28 points — both career highs — and Northern Iowa limited Bradley to just 18 second-half points as the Panthers took a 68-50 victory Wednesday night.

Jesperson and Matt Bohannon each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers as Northern Iowa took a 12-4 lead, but Bradley kept pace. Antoine Pittman hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 32-32 with 1:06 left in the first half. Jesperson hit a late 3 to give Northern Iowa a 35-32 halftime advantage.

Bradley took a 38-37 lead on Pittman's 3-pointer less than three minutes into the second half, but the Braves scored on just two Pittman 3-pointers over the next eight minutes.

Northern Iowa (11-11, 3-6 Missouri Valley) built a 54-44 advantage and Jesperson hit three straight 3s to make it 63-47.

Ronnie Suggs scored 15 and Pittman added 14 points for Bradley (3-19, 1-8).

Super Bowl 50 is set. The Denver Broncos have reached the title game for the second time in three years, and the eighth time in franchise history. They will take on the Carolina Panthers, who will make their second Super Bowl appearance and first in 12 years

The Broncos captured the AFC championship game as Peyton Manning threw a pair of TD passes to Owen Daniels while in the first half of a 20-18 win over the New England Patriots. Manning completed 17 of his 32 passes for 176 yards and no interceptions.

Brian McManus hit two field goals, a 52-yarder with 33 seconds remaining in the first half and a 31-yard kick that gave Denver a 20-12 lead with about 10 minutes left. C.J. Anderson had 72 yards on 16 carries for the Broncos, who have tied Pittsburgh, Dallas and New England for most Super Bowl appearances.

It was the fifth time Manning and Tom Brady have locked horns in the AFC title game. Manning now has a 3-2 edge in those battles.

The Broncos' defense hounded Brady all afternoon, recording four sacks and knocking him down 14 times. Denver linebacker Von Miller was one of the stars of the game, recording 2 ½ sacks and one interception.

Brady completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes, hitting on 27 of 56 for 310 yards, one TD and two interceptions.

However, Brady converted a pair of fourth-down plays on the Patriots' final drive, including a four-yard TD pass to Rob Gronkowski on fourth-and-goal with 12 seconds left. The Patriots would have tied the game with a successful two-point conversion, but Brady's pass was tipped by Aqib Talib and intercepted by Bradley Roby. The Pats had to go for two after Stephen Gostkowski missed an extra-point try following Steven Jackson's one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

The NFC Championship game was a total blowout as Cam Newton threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others in the Panthers' 49-15 laugher against Arizona. Newton was 19 of 28 for 335 yards through the air, including an 86-yard scoring pass to Corey Brown in the first quarter. Newton's five-yard TD toss to Devin Funchess in the fourth quarter iced the victory.

Ted Ginn had a 22-yard TD run and Luke Kuechly (KEEK'-lee) capped the scoring by returning Carson Palmer's fourth interception 22 yards. Brown and Greg Olsen each finished with 113 yards receiving.

The Panthers held the Cardinals to 287 total yards. Palmer was 23 of 40 for 235 yards, one touchdown and six turnovers, including a pair of fumbles.

The Super Bowl is slated for Feb. 7 in Santa Clara, Calif. The Panthers are the early four-point favorite.
