Des Moines official says employee falsified report

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A West Des Moines official says a utility employee is off the job after falsifying a water sample report.

Water Works manager Diana Wilson says a longtime treatment plant employee left the utility on Monday. She said the man lied when he said a water sample was safe after it tested positive for harmful bacteria.

Wilson did not release the man's name but said he worked there for "decades." She didn't say if he resigned or was fired.

Four of five samples taken Aug. 16 were negative for the unspecified bacteria. Wilson says the water has been retested and found to be safe.
