Des Moines man pleads not guilty in home invasion

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Des Moines man has pleaded not guilty to several charges in connection to a fatal home invasion in July.

19-year-old Ngor Peter Makuey entered the plea Wednesday during an arraignment hearing on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and first-degree burglary.

Makuey is accused of entering the home of Rupert and Harriet Anderson on July 2 and attacking the couple. Ninety-seven-year-old Rupert Anderson died of his injuries. Ninety-four-year-old Harriet Anderson survived.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Sept. 18. A jury trial is scheduled for Oct. 15.
