The New York Jets have fired director of pro personnel Brendan Prophett and five members of the scouting department.

Prophett was starting his 16th season with the team, and ninth as the Jets' director of pro personnel. New general manager Mike Maccagnan also parted ways with college scouts Rick Courtright, David Hinson, Cole Hufnagel, Chris Prescott and Seth Turner on Monday.

The moves come two days after the NFL draft was completed and are the latest shake-up to the front office since Maccagnan was hired. Maccagnan fired senior director of college scouting Terry Bradway and director of college scouting Jeff Bauer in January.

Hufnagel joined the Jets in 2006. Hinson and Prescott were hired in 2013, and Turner was added last year.

The Brewers fired manager Ron Roenicke and replaced him with former Milwaukee infielder Craig Counsell.

Milwaukee, a major league-worst 7-18, lost 40 of its final 56 games under Roenicke. The skid included a late-season collapse last year after the Brewers led the NL Central for nearly five months, and a 2-13 start this season.

Counsell, a 44-year-old Milwaukee-area native, was given a contract through the 2017 season, the Brewers said Monday.

He spent the final five seasons of his 16-year big-league career with the Brewers, retiring after the 2011 season. A two-time World Series champion, he scored the winning run for Florida in the 11th inning of Game 7 of the 2003 World Series and was MVP of the 2001 NL Championship Series for Arizona.

The family of World Cup winner Jimmy Greaves says the former England and Tottenham striker is in intensive care after suffering a severe stroke.

A statement says the 75-year-old Greaves had "appeared to have made a full recovery" from a minor stroke in 2012 before being taken ill again on Sunday.

The Greaves family has "asked for privacy during what is a worrying time."

Greaves was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad and, with 44 goals in 57 games, is the country's the fourth-highest scorer of all time.

He also scored 266 goals in 379 matches for Tottenham and was due to inducted into the club's hall of fame on May 13.

The U.S. men's team set a world record in the distance medley relay at IAAF's World Relays meet on Sunday in the Bahamas.

Kyle Merber, Brycen Spratling, Brandon Johnson and Ben Blankenship set a time of 9 minutes, 15.50 seconds, eclipsing Kenya's run of 9:15.56 in 2006.

Kenya was second in Sunday's race, 1.7 seconds behind.

The distance medley relay is composed of legs of 1,200, 400, 800 and 1,600 meters for a total of 10 laps, or 4,000 meters.

The Americans won an extra $50,000 for setting the record.

Usain Bolt did not run Sunday's 4x200 meter relay final won by the Jamaicans in 1:20.97. The U.S. team was disqualified after problems with the baton exchange.

Bolt and his teammates were second to the U.S. in Saturday's 4x100 final.

A person familiar with the decision says Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has won the NBA's Most Valuable Player award.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Sunday because the league has not released the voting results. An official announcement is expected Monday, and Curry will be presented with the award on the court before Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals against Memphis on Tuesday night.

Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area, the official television partner of the Warriors, first reported Curry won. He beat out Houston's James Harden, Cleveland's LeBron James and Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook, among others, for the league's most coveted individual award.

Curry carried the top-seeded Warriors to a franchise-record 67 wins and surpassed his own record for most 3-pointers in a season. He's the franchise's first MVP since Wilt Chamberlain in 1960, when the Warriors played in Philadelphia.

One of professional wrestling's most celebrated performers and promoters, Verne Gagne, has died at age 89.

Gene Okerlund, who was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame with Gagne in 2006, says his longtime friend died Monday in Minnesota.

WWE says Gagne turned professional in 1950 and won several regional championships before heading to the newly formed American Wrestling Association in 1960.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Gagne became a promoter and eventually became the sole owner of the AWA. He remained an active competitor until the early 1980s, holding the AWA World Heavyweight Championship 10 times between 1960 and 1981.

Okerlund calls Gagne one of the pioneers of professional wrestling who helped "put it on the map."

NASCAR chairman Brian France is not sure if Kyle Busch will be granted a waiver to be part of the championship chase when he returns from injury, but said Thursday the sanctioning body would like to "accommodate" him.

Busch broke his right leg and left foot in a crash into a concrete wall in the Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway the day before the season-opening Daytona 500.

He'll miss his ninth race this weekend at Richmond International Raceway, but has indicated he'll return to racing this season. The only way he'd be eligible to make the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship is if NASCAR grants him a waiver, and he wins a race that would qualify him for the 16-driver field. He'd also have to be inside the top 30 in points.

Daniel Murphy drove in four runs and the New York Mets matched a franchise record with their 11th straight victory Thursday, walking their way to a 6-3 win over the Atlanta Braves behind Bartolo Colon.

The streaking Mets, with the top record in the majors despite injuries to several critical players, finished 10-0 on their first homestand of the season after sweeping a trio of NL East rivals.

This is the fifth time the Mets have won 11 games in a row, and the first since 1990. Next stop, the Subway Series beginning Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

Murphy hit an early three-run double, and the 41-year-old Colon outpitched All-Star Julio Teheran in a matchup of unbeaten starters. New York took advantage of eight walks and tied the 1986 World Series champions for the best start in team history at 13-3.

Greg Jennings has played in 10 postseason games, or 10 more than most of his new teammates with the Miami Dolphins, and he's eager to help lead them to some success in January.

The two-time Pro Bowl receiver said Thursday he's comfortable in the leadership role. He signed an $8 million, two-year contract Wednesday with the Dolphins, and he'll fill a void among the wideouts by providing a veteran presence.

The team's other top receivers are Jarvis Landry, 22, and newcomer Kenny Stills, 23.

Jennings, a nine-year veteran, led the Minnesota Vikings last season with 59 catches for 742 yards and six touchdowns. He has 63 regular-season touchdown receptions, and scored twice to help the Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2011 Super Bowl.

A hydrogen-fueled vehicle will lead the field at a NASCAR race for the first time when a 2016 Toyota Mirai serves as the official pace car Saturday night at Richmond.

The midsize sedan uses no gasoline and emits only water vapor. The electric vehicle is powered by hydrogen, refuels in about five minutes and travels up to 300 miles on one tank. It goes on sale in California later this year, with expansion planned.

Ed Laukes, vice president of marketing for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., said the manufacturer continues to use NASCAR as a vehicle to "showcase our innovation and environmental leadership."

The Toyota Camry Hybrid was the first hybrid vehicle to pace a full NASCAR race when it was used at Charlotte in 2009.
