ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) — Altoona voters have rejected a $3.99 million bond measure that would have paid for additions and improvements at the city recreation center.

The unofficial results Tuesday from the Polk County Election Office showed 692 votes against the measure, versus 388 votes in support. The turnout was about 11 percent.

The proposal included additions to the facility's youth area, workout spaces, locker rooms, multipurpose areas and 80 new parking stalls.

A similar, $6.55 million proposal to upgrade the recreation center was rejected in November.
