A New Place to Call Home: The Tallcorn is Complete

by KIX101.1 /1230 KFJB News Department posted May 8 2014 11:35AM
The Tallcorn Towers project has been one a long time in the making and it’s finally finished. Paul Fate, CEO of Common Bond - the company in charge of the refurbishments - says the buildings transformation is one of the most impressive he has ever seen.

“This is one of the most remarkable transformations I have been apart of,” Fate said.

As he further pointed out, it was not an easy undertaking.

“The conditions in this property, in the units,” he observed, “were as tough, or bad, as I have seen in any major city in the country.”

He added a chuckle to his last remark, as the building he was standing in was once so deplorable was now a livable housing development.

Although his position in the city is recent, Marshalltown Mayor Jim Lowrance says this transformation has been a long awaited by the community.

“The hope among many Marshalltown residents, particularly the people in the downtown area, was that this building would be resorted and revitalized to its former beauty.

And as Mayor Lowrance was pleased to say, “It certainly has been done with this project.”

However, at times, the renovations were not that easy. This past winter, and the harsh outdoor conditions, made it difficult to do the work.

“Those crews out working had to be freezing to death,” Lowrance said, “And as much as they tried to avoid the wind and the snow – they just couldn’t do it.”

But they did do it.

The 49-unit building already has residents calling it home. The total project cost was $11.2 million.
