Governor Kim Reynolds noted a series of economic highlights in her Condition of the State speech, including the state budget surplus and Iowa’s record-low unemployment rate, but she said not everyone feels that success.
Reynolds revealed her education spending. She supports a two-point-three percent INCREASE in general state support of public K-through-12 schools. That amounts to 89 million dollars. The governor wants to an 11 million state spending boost to help sprawling rural districts in particular that have huge transportation costs. She’s asking lawmakers to plug a million more dollars into efforts to encourage students to study science, technology, engineering and math.
