We’ve talked about the backfills that the State owes cities and counties. Those funds were the result of a commercial property tax rollback five years ago. Senate President Jack Whitver of Ankeny, says while the 150 million dollars of backfills will be paid out this year, next year is up for debate. Whitver says he and other Republicans feel cities have benefited from the commercial property tax reduction.

Governor Reynolds has stated that any discussion about eliminating the backfill payments should include city and county officials.
