Whenever the subject of the budget for the State of Iowa comes up around most local officials, the term backfill always seems to pop up. The state is scheduled to return more than 150-million dollars to to assist communities “backfill” its budgets due to lower property tax payments from the state. Some state politicians say its tome to end those payments. Governor Kim Reynolds is not so sure, adding local officials need to be part of the discussions.

The backfills scenario was established in 2013 when the legislature cut commercial property taxes by ten percent.
