Rep. Smith Meets With MCSD Board

Marshalltown State Representative Mark Smith was a guest at last night’s board meeting of the Marshalltown Community School District. With the next session of the legislature just a couple of weeks away from opening, Smith told the board it is his position that if the State mandates any regulations, then it should also provide the funding for the schools to implement those regulations. When asked what his takeaway was from meeting with the board…

Time:    16                                  Out; from the state

Smith told the Board he was in favor of removing the cap on the statewide penny sales tax that currently helps schools fund infrastructure projects. Referring to the situation with the state’s budget when it comes to education, the Democrat termed it “a mess”.
