The high temperature on Friday in Marshalltown reached 82 amidst a heat advisory that was in place issued by the National Weather Service. Friday night the area was under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. Thunderstorms did rumble through the area Saturday morning. Races at the Marshalltown Speedway were cancelled Friday night because of impending weather being indicated on radar according to race promoter Toby Kruse. During the heat wave Marshalltown had highs of 95 on Thursday and 93 on Wednesday with a peak heat index that made it feel like 112 degrees Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile drought talk has begun in earnest for parts of the listening area according to the latest National Drought Monitor.
