The Marshalltown School Board appointed Ben Fletcher of Marshalltown to the School Board as they met on Monday. Communications Director Andrew Potter says Fletcher was selected from among seven people who declared interest in serving. Fletcher is a young husband who works for Emerson Process Management/Fisher Controls. Fletcher says he was delighted with the opportunity and looked forward to getting his feet wet as a school board member. Upon being selected he took the oath of office right away and took his seat at the board table. Two Miller Middle School seventh graders were honored for acts of character during a recent cross country meet at Indianola, Ellie Draisey and Diana Castro helped Claire Sullivan of Dowling Catholic who had suffered a stress fracture finish a race, the encouraged Sullivan and finished the last few hundred yards of the race with her. The girls were honored with certificates, a pair of special tee shirts and they were featured in a story done by WOI T-V.
