The Marshalltown City Council Monday night voted to deny a liquor license request by Oscar Sanchez of Marshalltown for a downtown bar called Wild Coyote amid safety concerns echoed by the Marshalltown Police Department over the present business and another business Sanchez owns called Palm Beach on Lincoln Way. Meanwhile, Sanchez, speaking at the meeting where he was represented by an attorney, said he felt discriminated against and threatened to close his businesses including a restaurant called Aye Carumba, move them elsewhere and leave the buildings empty. The council vote to deny the liquor license was seven yes and zero no. Sanchez does have the option of appealing the decision to the state of Iowa for potential overturning.
