The Marshalltown Police Department offered tours Sunday of their facility in the hopes of demonstrating the need for a new facility which will be up for a vote in August as well as a proposal for a new fire station. Captain Chris Jones says the upper levels of the building are ancient and being used for storage only in a facility that is sadly lacking space for a growing amount of personnel. The bottom floor has severe flooding when there is heavy rain in an area, and unfortunately, this is the only space available to house critical communication equipment used to serve the entire area of Marshall County. There are also security concerns when people are brought in for booking and processing. If all goes well the City of Marshalltown will conduct a yes/no vote on Tuesday, August 2 for a bond issue that would pay for a new police and fire station facility to be located at South Second Street and West Anson Street in Marshalltown.
