Residents of the Village Coop in Marshalltown made a request of the Marshalltown City Council on Monday asking for two streetlights to be put up on the far west end of Merle Hibbs Boulevard for safety reasons. Spokesman John Reardon says the residents will pay for the installation of one of the street lights if the city would pay for the other. In an earlier request the city turned them down citing the rules of an ordinance drafted in 1973. City officials took no action pending further research, a compromise could be reached and action could be taken at the next council meeting on May 9th.
